RATIONAL NUMBERS(LECTURE 8)
LESSON 8 : RATIONAL NUMBERS
Dear students
Welcome to a bright and a beautiful day !!
1. Take your SET-A Mathematics Register
2. Make a column on the right hand side, if you need to do any rough work
Please write the learning outcomes as mentioned below:
I will be able to:
1.Recall the representation of natural numbers, whole numbers and integers on the number line.
2.Represent a rational number p/q on the number line where -1<p/q<1
Let’s first revise what is a number line?
1.A number on the left is less than a number on the right.
Eg -5< 2
2.A number on the right is greater than a number on the left.
Eg 3> 1
3.A number line extends indefinitely in both the directions
let's us first quickly revise about representation of integers on number line.
Look at the question given ☟
write the question in your notebook and draw the number line corresponding to the correct option.
Hint: below zero means negative and above zero means positive

REPRESENTATION OF RATIONAL NUMBERS
Here, we will be taking rationals which are more than - 1 and less than 1
let's us take an eg : Represent 1/2 on the number line
Step 1: Draw a number line as given ☟
step 2: Since 1/2 lies between 0 and 1,so we will divide this length in
2 equal parts( 2 parts because denominator is 2)
step 3: show 1 out of 2 parts part as 1/2 as shown below(1 part as numerator is 1)
Suppose we want to show 1/ 3 on a number line. Into how many equal parts

🔺
Suppose we want to show 1/ 3 on a number line. Into how many equal parts
should the length between 0 and 1 be divided?
Now, click on the link to learn more about this
Now we will do Q1(ii) of EX 1.2
Q1 (ii) Represent -5/6 on the number line
Since , -5/6 lies between -1 and 0
so , we will divide length between -1 and 0 into …6… equal parts.
and take 5 out of 6 parts on the negative side of the number line
Let's do more examples(do it in your notebook)
Ques: Draw number lines and locate the points on them :
(use sharpened pencil and ruler)
(i) 3/5
(ii) 1/4
(iii) -1/2
(iv) - 2/3
now, you can complete Q2 of EX 1.2 as HW
Before you wind up, try your hand at this☟
R,U ,X,A,D, ?

let's go through the SDG -6
That is all for today!
Complete your HW and Revise CW
Be safe!!
