LESSON 9 RATIONAL NUMBERS

WELCOME TO THE CLASS!!

1.     Take your SET-A Mathematics Register

2.     Make a column on the right hand side, if you need to do any rough work

3. You have to note down the text given in Blue

3.     Write today's date 

Write down today's learning outcomes:

I will be able to:

1. recall what is a number line.

2.recall the representation of a rational number (lying between -1 and 1) on number line.

3. represent a rational number ( more than =1 or less than = -1) on a number line.

Let's first revise what we did in the previous class

Now. let's take an e.g . Represent -5/3 on the number line(Make a note of this)

step 1. express -5/3 as a mixed no. (divide 5 by 3)

The mixed no  is

 

= -1+(2/3)

step 2:   So, -5/3 lies between 2 integers..-2...  and...-1…..

step 3: Divide length  between -2 and -1 on number line into...3… equal parts

(3 equal parts because denominator is 3)

step4: Mark  2  out of 3 parts between -1 and -2 on the number line

(2 out of 3 parts because in  number the fractional part is 2/3)

Represent the following rational numbers on the number line

1.  7/5

2. -5/2

3. -11/3

4. 17/4
